DIY Pumpkin Planter for Fall

So I pull out my “Fall Decor” bin, open it up, and felt instantly overwhelmed by all of the things inside. Pumpkins of all sorts, faux leaves galore, wreaths, scarecrows…you name it, I have it!

But this year feels different. I’m longing for simplicity… and wondering how can I make things easier on myself. Unloading and dispersing a large tote of Fall items throughout my house is not going on the “to do list” this year! Now with that being said, I still adore this season, and still must have few Fall items in my home. Check out my post on how to create a simple cozy home for the season for more ideas…find it HERE.

I saw this Kraft paper style pumpkin from a few years ago sitting in the tote, and it spoke to me (this pumpkin is originally from Hobby Lobby). I loved the color and it felt clean and calm… so I pulled it out.

It had been previously crafted on… I poked holes in the top of it and added some faux greenery. It turned out really cute, check out the post HERE if you’re interested in that!

🌿I’m a plant person, and I have a feeling you might be too. šŸ˜‰ So I wanted something hollow that I could set a plant in that was already incorporated into my decor. Pumpkins definitely cannot kick the plants out right?! So that’s when I figured I would make a “planter” for one of my current plants that is in fact, already planted into a pot! I wanted to create the illusion that it was actually planted in the pumpkin! It brings all the Fall feels without having too much that needs to be “taken out” and stored away if that makes sense.

I cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin with a knife, it was very quick and easy, just be careful maneuvering!

This plant was already sitting out on my shelf! So nothing needed to be moved or stored… SWEET!

So I just set this white planter right inside of this hollow Kraft paper pumpkin, and I can’t love the look of it anymore! It’s clean, simple, and still incorporates my love for live greenery as decor. When Fall comes to an end, I can easily store it away and use it again next year.

The plant that I used here is a Pothos, literally one of the easiest plants! If you’re looking for more guidance on houseplants, I have some great info HERE, especially if you’re a beginner!

I really am loving the look of this, and it was exactly what I was going for!

I’d love to hear from you in the comments! How are you feeling about Fall decor this year? Keep it simple, or get out all the things?! I truly believe that there is no wrong answer to that as long as it is bringing you JOY!

Talk soon, and happy Fall, Hailey

  1. It looks really cool, I’ll have a look for paper decorations that can be transformed into planters. I have about 30 plants now in my 1 bedroom flat and I’ve been looking for nice planters, but ceramic ones tend to be soooo expensive
